Physical activity does not have to be strenuous to achieve health benefits. A moderate amount of daily physical activity is beneficial to both men and women of all ages. It helps to reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as decrease anxiety and depression. It also helps to build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.
The most beneficial time to exercise is in the morning before you start your day. This will increase your metabolism and improve your alertness for the day. 30 minutes of brisk walking daily is enough to achieve health benefits. If you are just beginning to add physical activity to your daily routine you should start with shorter sessions of 5-10 minutes and gradually build up to the desired level of activity. Be careful not to do too much too quickly as this will increase the risk of injury. Start moving!
